What’s a 3-Minute Challenge (3MC)? It is an opportunity to try something new, to learn new skills, to think outside our normal paths. Briefly, a topic is chosen, some ground rules laid out, and then at some point down the road, we show what we’ve come up with and the other members of the SIG get an opportunity to offer comments and/or suggestions. Quite frequently, we may find ourselves having to dig into the instructions and learn something new and that’s really the point! It is far too easy to find ourselves in a rut and the 3MCs hopefully will jar us out of those ruts.
Do you have a 3MC to propose? Bring your idea to a Multimedia SIG meeting and let’s hear it!
While the 3MC are aimed at the members of the Multimedia SIG, we are very open to other members of the Camera Club taking a shot at doing one of the topics listed below in the “Open” section. If you’re interested, come to one of our meetings and talk it over with us!
3-Minute Challenges currently “open”
** Note: Add 5 seconds of “black video” to the front end of your video so that your video doesn’t have the video player tools, etc. showing on top of your video before they ‘fade’. This 5 seconds does not count towards the 3-minute total.
Teach A Single Photographic Subject: Choose a subject in still photography (not video!) and teach that subject using any combination of video, still photos, text, audio, etc. The video can be no more than 3 minutes in length. (Hint: The main issue will be to focus (yeah, yeah, pun intended… sorry) on a single subject. If you try to take in too much territory, 3 minutes will likely not be enough!) Click here for a list of completed 3MC videos in this topic. Due Date: None. Bring it in when you’re ready.
Black & White: No limit on subject or media — it can be any combination of video and/or still photography. Release your inner Ansel Adams but do it in no more than 3 minutes! See the Meeting Notes for 08/16/2018 for links to a couple of web articles on working in b&w. Due Date: None. Will probably collect and show in conjunction with a SIG session on B&W.
30-Second Commercial: Ok, not a 3-Minute Challenge, but a challenge none-the-less that can easily be even tougher than a full 3 minutes. Do a 30-second commercial on one aspect of the GVR Camera Club. This could be one of the SIGs, field trips, Showtime, Travelogue, facilities… anything. Included in the 30 seconds should be two seconds of black video at the front end. These will be used at Showtime, Travelogue, and other venues may occur to us in the future. No personal logos up front. Ideally, you should get with the SIG facilitator to coordinate. Click here for a list of completed 30-second SIG commercials. Due Date: None. Bring it in when you’re ready.
SIG Infomercial: Do a 3-minute infomercial on one aspect of the GVR Camera Club. This could be one of the SIGs, field trips, Showtime, Travelogue, facilities… anything. Included should be two seconds of black video at the front end. These will be used at Showtime, Travelogue, and provided to the SIGs to include in their sections of the Club web site if they desire. No personal logos up front. Ideally, you should get with the SIG facilitator to coordinate. Click here for a list of completed SIG infomericials. Due Date: None. Bring it in when you’re ready.
