The average adult beaver weighs between 35 and 40 pounds; the largest can weigh more than 60 pounds and be 3 feet tall when standing on its hind legs.  Though their long front length teeth look menacing, beavers are peaceful creatures.

Image courtesy of Ed Hunt, GVCC.  Photo taken in the wild on 9/27/11 at a beaver pond on the southern edge of Estes Park, Colorado. We were there volunteering at The YMCA of the Rockies. It was a pleasant evening and we just had to wait a little bit for the right shot. The pond was alongside a residential road and rather easy to access.
